Kuwait’s Dermatology Clinics Flooded with 50,000 Cases Each Year

KUWAIT CITY, March 17 : Head of the Dermatology Department Council of the Kuwaiti Ministry of Health, Dr. Atlal Al-Lafi, said on Saturday that the specialized clinics affiliated with the ministry receive about 50,000 cases annually. Al-Lafi, who is the head of the Kuwaiti Dermatologists Association, explained in a statement to reporters after the Ramadan Ghabga organized by the association on Saturday, that the most common skin diseases in the State of Kuwait are dry skin, allergies and eczema, pointing to the ministry’s policy and strategy aimed at improving the services provided to keep pace with those in the developed world.

She pointed out the effectiveness of fasting in treating many skin diseases, especially those related to allergies, such as (urticaria), as it contributes to temporarily reducing the percentage of water in the blood and thus the skin, and then increasing its immunity and resistance to microbes, infectious and bacterial diseases, as well as reducing the severity of psoriasis and allergies, which increase with frequent consumption of rich foods. With salts, as well as (acne), which increases with frequent consumption of fats and sweets.

She added that despite the great benefits of fasting on human health and body, those suffering from some skin diseases, such as severe lupus, severe psoriasis, skin cancer, and others, are prohibited from fasting, as some diseases require nutritional elements that may decrease by abstaining from eating food or water. She stated that fasting and the subsequent change in eating habits are related to the skin and hair, which in turn is affected by the change in the level of certain nutritional elements, such as vitamins A and D, which must be provided at the breakfast and suhoor tables through green salad and lean protein. Al-Lafistressed the importance of consuming a sufficient amount of fresh vegetables and water to compensate for what the body loses during the fasting period, while reducing foods rich in salts and spices.
