Kuwaiti woman acquitted in citizenship forgery case – 3 of her relatives sentenced for 7 years in prison

KUWAIT CITY, July 11: The Criminal Court acquitted a Kuwaiti woman of forging citizenship documents through DNA, in which three of her relatives were sentenced to seven years in prison with hard labor after they were found guilty of forging documents showing they are related to one of the accused. Representing the citizen, Attorney Jarrah Al-Enezi challenged the logic behind the testimony given by the prosecutor, which he said, lacked technical evidence to prove that his client was involved in the crime, while his client denied the charges from the start. The prosecution accused the defendants of forging citizenship documents by providing a sample of DNA not belonging to the applicant, just to make it appear as if he is related to one of the citizens,with the aim of getting the citizenship of Kuwait. The court found no substantial evidence to show that the Kuwaiti woman participated in the crime in any way, prompting the court to acquit her of all charges leveled against her by the Public Prosecution.

Media man acquitted: The Court of Appeal presided by Justice Ibrahim Al-Abeed overruled a verdict issued by the lower court which refrained from punishing a media consultant, and instead acquitted him of all charges involving doctorate certificate forgery through which he illegally received salary of about KD20,000 from the government in his capacity as media consultant. Representing the defendant Attorney Khaled Al-Kafefa argued that all evidence against his client were dismissed, and that Ministry of Higher Education had allowed his client to pursue his doctorate in one of the universities in Egypt, and through such permission from the plaintiff, the accusations leveled against his client can not be substantiated.

Bank staffer insulted: A Kuwaiti employee working for one of the local banks is pursuing a Kuwaiti after accusing him of insulting her in front of her colleagues while on duty, reports Al-Anba daily. The employee said her colleagues can testify that she had the right to complain. According to a security source, the 27-year-old complainant in her complaint to the Yarmouk Police Station said in spite of the insults hurled at her by the suspect she remained silent and although the suspect is an elderly man, she added, she has the right to file a complaint.

Man betrays trust: Police have taken into custody an unidentified Arab man for failing either to return the car which he had rented from a car rental company or to pay the money, reports Al-Anba daily The daily added, the arrest came after an employee of the car rental company filed a complaint with the Ardhiya Police Station following which the man was put under surveillance and was caught in front of his house. Records show the man owed the company 4,070 dinars.

Fighting with swords: Police have arrested two Kuwaitis and referred them for interrogation, reports Al-Rai daily. The daily added one of the men was armed with a sword and the arrests came after someone informed the Operations Room of the Ministry of Interior that two men were fighting in the Capital governorate in one of the public places. The daily added, paramedics also rushed to the spot and administered first aid to the injured.
