KUWAIT CITY, Jan 14: The fire that broke out at Al-Ahmadi oil refinery early Friday has left two workers dead and 10 others wounded, said Kuwait National Petroleum Corporation (KNPC). Speaking to KUNA, KNPC Deputy CEO for Administrative and Commercial Affairs and Official Spokesman Ahed Al-Khurayif. said the blaze, which erupted at the refinery's gas liquefaction unit 32, was put under control in a record time.

The unity caught fire when the facility was under scheduled maintenance, he said, adding that an emergency plan was put in place immediately in order to deal with the accident. The workers injured in the fire were taken to nearby hospitals for medical treatment, he said, offering heartfelt condolence to the victims' families and wishing quick recovery for the injured. However, production, export and local supply operations have not been affected by the fire since the facility was already out of service due to scheduled maintenance, he pointed out.
