KUWAIT CITY, Jan 19: Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) has requested for renewal of a contract to upgrade the boilers (numbers one to six) in unit number 29 in Mina Ahmadi Refinery at a cost of KD14.69 million with Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Company as the latter is the only entity that can do the job well, reports Al-Anba daily.

The production capacity of the refinery is about 446,000 barrels daily. The refinery was established in 1949 as a simple one with operational energy capacity of not more than 25,000 barrels daily to cover the needs of the local market for petrol, diesel and kerosene. It was expanded twice and 29 new units were built using the latest technology.
