IN Riyadh, American President Donald Trump declared, “The future of the Middle East begins here,” clearly referring to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Since 2015, this nation has consistently demonstrated its capability as a soft power, influencing developments in line with its strategic priorities -- Saudi Arabia’s interests first, followed by the Gulf, Arab, and Islamic spheres respectively. This is the reason why the era of change and achievement began 10 years ago. King Salman bin Abdulaziz deserves to be the King of the Arabs at a moment in history that is unlike anything the Arabs have known for decades. This is due to the efforts of his Crown Prince, Prince Mohammed bin Salman -- a man who never sleeps, busy developing and advancing his country.
Therefore, this young man, full of vitality and energy, deserves to be told, “May Allah bless and delight you, O Prince.” The Hadith of the Prophet (PBUH), which states “We should be optimistic when we see the foreheads and feet of horses…” applies to Your Highness. It is always great to see achievements that are beneficial for the Kingdom, the Gulf, and the broader Arab world. The steps taken to lift sanctions on Syria, which have hurt a nation we care about, are very important, given the recent war, displacement, poverty, and hardship they faced. It is good to see that the US presidency has been receptive to these calls. Thus, we also say to His Excellency the US President: You will soon find that Syria has truly returned to the pounding heart of the Arab world.
Today, it is at home. Despite being wronged, a man extends an olive branch, believing his country has the chance to unite various groups. He aims to build up, not tear down. Mr. Donald Trump, we also say, may Allah bless your efforts in making the Middle East an oasis of peace, after its people were burdened by wars and crises for 77 years and continue to suffer up to this day. So when you say, “The future begins here,” you are fully aware that there will be no stability in the world as long as there is no peace in this region. President Trump’s visit and the immediate actions taken afterward really mark a turning point for the Middle East, different from what we have seen for years. It shuts down the plans of those who wanted to turn the area into a war zone, stir up trouble between different groups, and keep things stuck in the past.
These groups were pushing the region towards a potential nuclear disaster instead of progress and peace. Mr. Trump, you have brought a glimmer of hope, a bright spot in a situation where it seemed like there was no way out. The achievements we are seeing are the direct result of the strong leadership of King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. They have really positioned Saudi Arabia as a leader in Arab advancement. Today, Riyadh stands as a thriving hub of peace and economic activity; drawing in key figures from the Gulf, the Arab world and across the globe.
