Kuwait Municipality building

KUWAIT CITY, May 28: The Jahra Governorate Committee of the Municipal Council is set to convene on Wednesday to deliberate on a proposal from the Public Authority for Agriculture Affairs and Fish Resources. The request involves allocating a site for fish and shrimp farming north of the Subiya area. Chaired by Abdullah Al-Anzi, the committee will also review a submission from the Public Authority for Industry regarding a request to annex the setback of the eastern side of Plot No. A2 to Plot 1 in the Sulaibiya Industrial Area.

In its technical review, the Kuwait Municipality has approved the Agriculture Authority's request to allocate a 7-square-kilometer site in North Subiya for fish and shrimp farming. This approval is contingent upon coordination with the Silk City and Boubyan Island Development Authority. Additionally, the project details and components must be presented to the Municipal Council before implementation.

The Municipality emphasized that the land for the project will be handed over in phases, beginning with an initial stage covering 1 square kilometer. Subsequent stages will proceed after the project's outputs are reviewed by the Municipality. Furthermore, a study evaluating the environmental and social impact of the project must be submitted, along with adherence to the requirements set forth by the Subcommittee on Public Facilities and Services during its meeting on November 7, 2023.

The Municipality also requires that the relevant departments be authorized to adjust the dimensions and areas of the site, within the designated limits, if any conflicts arise with existing infrastructure services or regulatory issues during the project's implementation.
