BJP activist arrested for organizing cow urine drinking event to fight coronavirus
KOLKATA, Mar 18: An activist from Indian BJP party Narayan Chatterjee was arrested for organizing a cow urine consumption event in North Kolkata, claiming that drinking cow urine protects people from coronavirus or cure those infected, leading to this a civic volunteer fell ill after drinking it, police said on Wednesday. He was arrested late Tuesday night following a complaint filed by the victim.
The cow urine distribution as a cure for coronavirus had drawn sharp criticism from the ruling TMC and opposition Congress.
Sources said that Narayan Chatterjee (40 yr old) is a local BJP party worker of Jorasakho area in North Kolkata, on Monday he organized a cow-worship programme at a cowshed and distributed cow urine. He vouched for its “miraculous” properties while offering cow urine to others.
"Although Chatterjee had organized the event he didn't force people into drinking it although he distributed it. So how can just police arrest him without any reason. This is completely undemocratic,” state BJP General Secretary Sayantan Basu said.
As per West Bengal BJP chief Dilip Ghos stated that there is no harm in drinking cow urine and he has no doubt in admitting he consumes it. His party colleague and MP Locket Chatterjee, however, differed, terming it an “unscientific belief” that should be avoided.
