Kuwait City, May 27: Huawei Digital Power Middle East and Central Asia showcased its cutting-edge solar technologies at the recently concluded FusionSolar Day in Kuwait. The event, held in partnership with Gold Partner, Shajara Sustainability Solutions (3S), brought together Kuwaiti government representatives, solar industry leaders, and energy experts to witness the launch of Huawei’s innovative new solar products.

The highlight of the event was the panel discussion titled “Accelerating Advancements in Renewable Energy: Impact on Energy Reliability and Economic Growth.” Experts deliberated on the Kuwaiti solar market, industry challenges, development opportunities, and the transition from conventional energy resources to green energy. This transition aligns with the global movement toward sustainability and Net-Zero goals. Major players of the renewable energy movement in Kuwait participated, including representatives from the financing, construction, and development sectors. Dr. Yehya Al-Hadban from the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research shared insights from the Al-Shegaya Pilot Project (70 MW). Dr. Ameer Al-Hashemi, CEO of Shajara Sustainability Solutions, emphasized the urgency of Kuwait catching up with the regional energy transition.

The event began by introducing the latest trends in solar and storage development. Carbon neutrality is gaining momentum globally, and the PV and energy storage industry is flourishing as it replaces conventional energy sources. As renewable energy, particularly PV energy, penetrates the market, the industry faces significant challenges in areas such as grid connection, operation, and safety.

Omar Abu Najm, Regional Sales and Distribution Manager for the Middle East & Central Asia, Digital Power Smart PV & ESS, Huawei, discussed the opportunities and challenges coexisting within the industry and presented the top ten trends for high-quality PV development. He stated, “We are committed to continuous innovation and high-quality development to accelerate the transition of PV to become the primary energy source.”

Dr. Ameer Al-Hashemi commented, “Our partnership with Huawei Digital Power marks a significant milestone in Kuwait’s renewable energy journey. By integrating Huawei’s cutting-edge solutions, including solar energy technology, we’re not only providing top-notch equipment but also enhancing energy security, reducing carbon emissions, and preserving our precious oil resources. The adoption of solar energy not only contributes to the environment but also bolsters the economy by reducing reliance on costly fossil fuels and creating new job opportunities within the renewable energy sector. Together, we’re shaping a sustainable future and leading Kuwait to the forefront of the global renewable energy transition.”

Following the discussion, Huawei unveiled the new smart string inverter SUN2000-150K-MG0, named the “Hexagon Warrior.” This 150KW inverter boasts industry-leading efficiency of 98.8%, long-term reliability, and a rapid shutdown time of 0.5 seconds. It caters to sectors such as iron and steel, transportation, non-ferrous metals, textiles, cement, and others.

Innovations in utility-scale offerings include the new liquid-cooled storage Smart BESS 2.0 LUNA2000-4.5MWH-2H1, featuring optimized LCOS (Levelized Cost of Storage) that reduces O&M costs by 30%. To ensure system safety, Huawei has developed a comprehensive safety design from the cell-level to the system-level, including power grid considerations.

Additionally, Huawei presented its smart microgrid solution featuring grid-forming capabilities. This integrated system combines energy storage and PV and is equipped with smart control features, proactive safety measures, and optional medium-voltage AC coupling via Huawei’s smart transformer station. The system optimizes the Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE) by reducing operating costs and increasing energy yield.

Huawei Digital Power remains committed to innovation and sustainability and will continue to support its partners and customers in Kuwait on their journey towards Net Zero targets.
