Police shot and critically wounded a hijab-wearing woman in a Paris metro station on Tuesday morning.

PARIS, Oct 31, (Agencies): In a concerning incident in Paris, police shot and critically wounded a woman wearing a hijab at the Bibliotheque Nationale de France metro station, on Tuesday morning. The encounter unfolded after commuters reported the woman shouting Jihadist slogans and exhibiting threatening behavior, as reported by government officials.

The incident occurred against the backdrop of France being on its highest state of alert following the suspected Islamist attack on October 13, which resulted in the tragic murder of a schoolteacher. Authorities have associated this incident with a perceived “Jihadist atmosphere” linked to the Israel-Gaza conflict.

Commuters alerted authorities when they heard the woman uttering aggressive Jihadist comments, prompting a swift police response. Government spokesperson Olivier Veran explained that upon arrival, the police initially requested the woman to calm down and show her hands to ensure she did not pose any imminent threat.

Regrettably, as the situation escalated, law enforcement officers were left with no choice but to open fire due to the perceived danger posed by the woman. The fire service, responsible for providing emergency care, confirmed that the woman had sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen. She was promptly transferred to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

Authorities disclosed that the woman had previously made threats against urban patrols associated with the counter-terrorism Sentinelle operation.

Following the incident, the metro station, situated along the RER C line, was evacuated for security purposes. The government spokesperson announced the launch of two investigations: one focusing on the actions of the woman and the other delving into the use of firearms by the police officers involved.
