UEFA unveiled ‘Fussballliebe’, a cutting-edge soccer ball in Berlin.

NYON, Switzerland, Nov 15, (Agencies): Next year’s European Championship in Germany will witness the introduction of a cutting-edge soccer ball designed to enhance offside decisions with increased precision. The ball, named “Fussballliebe,” translating to “love of soccer” in German, was unveiled by UEFA and Adidas in Berlin. Having made its debut at the 2022 World Cup, the ball is set to be used in the 51-game Euro 2024 tournament scheduled from June 14 to July 14.

Equipped with a chip fixed on a gyroscope inside, the ball sends data at a remarkable rate of 500 times per second, capturing the exact moment of a kick. The recorded “kick point” assists match officials in determining offside calls, utilizing multiple camera angles to generate 3D visualizations that depict player movement. UEFA emphasized that this “connected ball technology” provides unprecedented insights into ball movement, contributing to the decision-making process of video assistant referees.

In addition to its technological advancements, the “Fussballliebe” boasts sustainable features, including the use of recycled polyester, water-based ink, and eco-friendly materials such as corn fibers, sugar cane, and wood pulp. Adidas, the manufacturer, has committed to allocating 1 percent of net sales from the ball to the Common Goal soccer charity, founded by former Spain midfielder Juan Mata.

Adidas, renowned for supplying balls for FIFA’s men’s and women’s World Cups, continues to push the boundaries of innovation in soccer equipment, ensuring a blend of cutting-edge technology and environmental consciousness.
