MUSCAT, Oman, Feb 13: Oman faced a tragic toll on Monday as heavy rainfall led to the loss of four lives, including three children, prompting rescue efforts by the Civil Defence and Ambulance Authority (CDAA). Flash floods, triggered by torrential rains and thunderstorms, wreaked havoc across various regions, with casualties reported in the Wilayat of Izki, Al Dakhiliyah Governorate.
Despite valiant rescue attempts, a woman trapped in floodwaters in Izki succumbed to her injuries, while three individuals were successfully saved from a vehicle stranded in an overflowing valley. The Royal Oman Police (ROP) has taken legal action against 36 individuals for endangering lives by attempting to cross valleys during the storm.
While weather conditions are expected to improve from Tuesday evening onwards, isolated rainfall remains forecasted in several parts of Oman. In response to ongoing risks, the CDAA issued a cautionary warning advising the public to exercise vigilance during thunderstorms and to avoid crossing valleys, low-lying areas, and sea ventures during this period of inclement weather.
