TUNIS, June 18,(KUNA): Kuwaiti Paralympic champion Faisal Sorour clinched the gold medal in the shot put (F42) event, while fellow athlete Dhari Bati secured the silver medal in the discus throw (F37) during the Tunis International Para Athletics Meeting, held at Rades Olympic City from June 16 to 18.
In another achievement for the team, Nasser Faraj qualified for the 2025 World Para Athletics Championships, set to take place in India this September. These accomplishments came as part of the tournament’s second day of competitions.
Nasser Al-Ajmi, head of the Kuwaiti delegation, congratulated the medalists and expressed appreciation to the technical staff, led by coach Ahmad Al-Harbi, for their role in enhancing the athletes' performance. He also commended the Kuwait Paralympic Committee’s Board of Directors and the Kuwait Disabled Sports Club’s administration for their unwavering support of para athletics.
Al-Ajmi praised Sorour’s consistent performance, noting that he also won a gold medal in the discus throw event on the tournament’s opening day, Monday. He confirmed the Kuwaiti team’s readiness for the competition, highlighting their strong physical and technical form thanks to intensive recent training.
The Kuwaiti delegation is represented by nine athletes: Faisal Sorour, Dhari Bati, Abdullah Al-Saif, Abdullah Al-Enezi, Nasser Faraj, Khaled Al-Rashidi, Abdullah Al-Saleh, Mohammed Al-Azmi, and Abdullah Al-Uthaina.
This year’s edition of the Tunis International Para Athletics Meeting has set a new participation record, featuring 500 male and female athletes competing across various disciplines.
