Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

INDIA, Nov 15, (Agencies) Former Pakistani cricketer Abdul Razzaq has issued an apology to Indian actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan following the uproar caused by his controversial remarks. Razzaq, along with former Pakistan cricketers Umar Gul and Shahid Afridi, made the comments during an event earlier this week, sparking widespread criticism.

In the video apology, Razzaq clarified that his comments were unintentional and resulted from a slip of the tongue. He expressed regret for mentioning Aishwarya Rai and clarified that he did not intend to hurt anyone's sentiments. The cricketer explained that the discussion was initially about cricket coaching and intentions, and he inadvertently mentioned Aishwarya Rai's name.

His controversial statements drew criticism not only from the public but also from his former colleagues, including Umar Gul and Shahid Afridi, who faced backlash for applauding Razzaq's remarks. Afridi later condemned the comments and pledged to ask Razzaq to apologize.

Afridi, in a televised appearance on Samaa TV, stated that he initially laughed on stage without fully understanding Razzaq's words. Upon reviewing a video sent to him later, Afridi realized the inappropriateness of the comments and committed to contacting Razzaq for an apology.

Legendary Pakistani fast bowlers Waqar Younis and Shoaib Akhtar also condemned Razzaq's offensive remarks. Waqar expressed disappointment and condemnation, while Akhtar emphasized that such jokes and comparisons should not be made, calling for immediate intervention when inappropriate comments are made.

Abdul Razzaq, who played in more than 300 international matches across all formats, was last seen in action during a T20I match against South Africa in November 2013.
