CAIRO, Feb 1, (KUNA): Egypt on Monday affirmed support for Kuwait’s nominee, the First Deputy Chairman of the International Swimming Federation (FINA) Hussein Al-Musallam for FINA’s chairmanship (2021-2025) in elections due in Qatar on June 5. The supportive Egyptian stance came during a meeting that grouped Al-Musallam with Yasser Idris, the head of the Egyptian Swimming Federation.

Al-Musallam is a distinctive personality in sports particularly in swimming, Idriss said in remarks to KUNA, affirming that his aspired win of the post would boost the game in Arab states. Meanwhile, Chairman of the International handball Federation Hassan Mustafa said in remarks to the Kuwaiti news agency he was elated with Al- Musallam’s candidacy for the senior post, noting his occupation of a chain of top sports posts and his multiple connections with decision making quarters.

For his part, Al-Musallam has lauded Egypt for throwing its weight behind Arab athletes on the international stage. FINA is the largest association in the Olympic tournaments, covering six games, 49 medals (gold, silver and bronze). The Kuwaiti Swimming Federation had nominated Al-Musallam for FINA’s number-one position.
