Drug smuggling at jail foiled

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 12: Special Forces officers assigned in the Prison Complex caught a militaryman, who is working at the Prison Administration, in the act of trying to hand over five grams of shabu to a relative who is serving time at the Central Prison for involvement in a drug case, reports Al-Jarida daily quoting a security source.

The source told the daily that the military man hid the drugs in his wristwatch, but the Special Forces officers found the contraband when they searched him. According to the source, Assistant Undersecretary for Special Security Forces and Correctional Institutions Affairs at the Ministry of Interior Major General Abdullah Saffah ordered referral of the military man to the Drug Control General Department (DCGD) after the registration of a case against him. During the preliminary investigation at the DCGD, the militaryman said he took the drugs from a Syrian who was arrested later. Both suspects were referred to the Public Prosecution.
