‘Don’t pay a penny more,’ Indian Ambassador to Kuwait tells nurses

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 30: The Indian Ambassador to Kuwait, HE Sibi George during the Open House which was held at the embassy auditorium under the title ‘Recruitment of Nurses from India to Kuwait’ said “no one should pay an extra ‘penny’ as hiring fees than what is prescribed by the Indian government. He added, as per the Indian government notification, the recruitment agencies can charge a fee of no more than 30,000 Indian rupees. Anything paid beyond this sum amounts to ‘scam’.

He said if anyone is asked to pay more than the prescribed amount, the person should bring it to the notice of the embassy so that action can be taken against fraudsters. The ambassador went on to say, “We are looking into the possibility of direct recruitment of nurses by the Kuwaiti Ministry of Health from India by sidelining the socalled middlemen.” He added discussions in this regard are underway. “I am also trying to reduce the cost of hiring domestic workers to Kuwait from India,” he added. The ambassador also discussed several issues with representatives of Indian associations and members of the nursing community during the Open House
