WASHINGTON, D.C., July 22: Disturbing new details have emerged about the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, revealing the shooter’s interest in a range of high-profile figures, including members of the British royal family.
An FBI analysis of the 20-year-old suspect’s cell phones and laptop has disclosed that prior to the July 13 shooting, which resulted in one death and three injuries, the shooter conducted online searches for Trump, President Joe Biden, and Princess Kate Middleton. The suspect also downloaded photos of the Princess of Wales.
In addition to searching for royal figures, the shooter, who was a registered Republican, looked up information on FBI Director Christopher Wray and U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland. The analysis also showed searches related to the Republican National Convention and the Democratic National Convention.
The day following the shooting, Princess Kate Middleton made her second formal public appearance at Wimbledon, where she received a standing ovation. The shooter had purchased 50 rounds of ammunition for the "AR-style rifle" used in the attack on the same day, with the weapon legally purchased in 2013 and registered to his father.
The shooter’s family is cooperating with authorities as the investigation continues into how the shooting occurred despite the former president’s Secret Service detail and prior warnings of a suspicious individual in the area.
Some members of the Republican Party, including Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene and Congressman Tim Burchett, have criticized female Secret Service agents and accused Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle of being a “Diversity, Equity and Inclusion hire.” Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi responded strongly to these claims, emphasizing that such accusations undermine the professionalism and dedication of their personnel.
The royal family has not commented on the latest developments regarding the shooter’s interest in Princess Kate Middleton. Historically, they do not disclose details about their security measures.
The FBI’s investigation into the shooting and the motives of the perpetrator remains ongoing.
