KUWAIT CITY, Feb 9: Director General of Kuwait Municipality Engineer Ahmad Al- Manfouhi in a previous decision approved the request of the Ministry of Defense to relocate the army camps located between Saad Al-Abdullah City and Al-Jahra Residential Area, reports Al-Rai daily.

The decision included the allocation of a site with an area of approximately 1.87 square kilometers as a substitute site of the Land Force Institute in Al-Khuwaisat Area near the National Guard Camp, while another site covering approximately 2.4 square kilometers is a substitute for the Administrative Support Command site in West Jahra region near water tanks.

The Jahra Committee at the Municipal Council recently decided during its meeting to keep the issue on agenda. Chairman of the committee Ahmad Al-Enezi revealed that “the committee invited representatives of the Ministry of Defense to attend the next meeting to discuss reasons for the amendment request concerning the allocated sites and the subject of movement, especially as Al-Manfouhi earlier stressed that the purpose of the transfer process is to free the land for residential use”.

In a related context, a source indicated “the request to transfer army camps has been on the Jahra Committee since 2015, and the Municipal Council in 2016 agreed to transfer those camps. Surprisingly, more than five years have passed and the Ministry of Defense has not moved until now.

It is noteworthy the request to evacuate military sites was determined within a maximum period of 8 years from the date of the decision, and handing them over to the Public Authority for Housing Welfare free of obstacles for planning in the form of plots.

The Jahra Committee in a recent meeting chaired by member Ahmad Hadyan indicated that member Abdel Wahhab Bouresli’s proposal to establish marketing, entertainment and service centers in Salmi region was referred to the executive branch in the municipality.
