Death ruling upheld, Kuwaiti to hang for slaying his friend

KUWAIT CITY, June 20: The Court of Cassation upheld the verdict issued by the Court of Appeals which issued a death sentence by hanging against a Kuwaiti citizen in his 30s who was accused of killing his friend and burning the corpse in Wafra desert area.

The defendant was convicted of intentionally killing his friend by shooting him twice, then pouring gasoline on the corpse and burning it. According to the case file, a Kuwaiti citizen called the Operations Room of Ministry of Interior in the wee hours of that fateful day and reported that his wife had been informed by another woman that her brother had been killed.

He immediately went to the campsite of his wife’s brother only to find the burnt corpse. Officers immediately commenced investigations to find the suspect, who was identified as a 1992-born Kuwaiti citizen who had gone into hiding.

They went to the suspect’s house in Mubarak Al-Kabeer area where they were promised by his father to handover his son within few hours. After few hours, the suspect surrendered at Fahaheel Police Station and confessed to killing the deceased. He revealed that he hid the Kalashnikov weapon, which he had used to shoot the victim, in Julai’a area
