KUWAIT CITY, Oct 14: The General Traffic Department (GTD) is currently studying the proposal of the Public Authority for Roads and Transportation (PART) to allow cyclists on Sheikh Jaber Bridge during Fridays only for two and a half hours – from 5:00 am to 7:00 am, reports Al-Rai daily quoting sources from the security sector.
Sources pointed out that if the proposal is approved, a mechanism will be laid down to allow bicycles on Sheikh Jaber Bridge; particularly in Al-Aman neighborhood, in coordination with PART, Ministry of Public Works and Traffic Engineering Department. While signboards informing motorists that cyclists are plying through the bridge at a specific time and day; foot and stationary patrols will be delegated to protect bikers from reckless drivers, in addition to medical emergency and ambulance teams in several locations, sources confirmed. “If the concerned authorities agree on these arrangements, a circular will be issued allowing cyclists to practice their hobby on the bridge, coinciding with the beginning of the winter season,” sources added.
