Court ‘postpones’ verdict in Khairan chalets murder case – Sharia faculty teacher fined for belittling sect

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 26: The Criminal Court postponed the verdict on Al- Khairan Pearl chalets murder case in which seven citizens are standing trial. Case files indicated the Operations Room of the Interior Ministry was notified about a bloody public brawl involving nine people fighting with sharp objects. Paramedics and security operatives rushed to the location and referred the injured to Adan Hospital, where the victim succumbed to his injuries. Investigators discovered that the quarrel was started by two groups inside the chalet and it escalated to stabbing which resulted in the death of the victim. Other participants were arrested upon orders from the Public Prosecutor after the remains of the victim had been sent to Forensics.

Teacher fined: The Criminal Court fined Professor Mohammad Al- Hajiri of the Faculty of Sharia KD 10,000 in the State Security case in which he is accused of belittling the Shiite doctrine through a lecture he delivered in the faculty. A group of students filed a complaint against Al-Hajiri after he shared an opinion about temporary marriage in a discussion and said ‘the Sunni doctrine prohibits this kind of marriage and some related interpretations in Shiite doctrine’. It is noteworthy the Public Prosecution ordered Al-Hajiri’s release on KD 5,000 bail bond, as he denied all accusations leveled against him.

‘Not guilty of terror’: The Second Division of the Court of First Instance presided by Justice Mit’eeb Al-Aridi has ruled in favor of a Kuwaiti man and acquitted him of the charge of financing terrorism. According to case papers the man was charged with collecting funds for the Islamic State. The defendant who is an employee of the Kuwait Municipality was accused on joining the IS and inciting others to join the terrorist group, collecting money on its behalf and fighting in Syria and Iraq. The man was also accused of committing hostile actions against Iraq and Syria without getting authorization from the government and calling on people to join the group by writing expressions in public places in a manner that endangered the country’s political relation with these two countries.

Boat seized for fishing in prohibited zone: Environment Police Department affiliated to the Public Security Sector launched an inspection campaign in the areas of Kuwait Bay where fishing is prohibited, in cooperation with the General Department of Coast Guard headed by Marine Environment Police Supervisor Major Abdullah Al-Essa, reports Al-Seyassah daily. The team seized a boat which was fishing in the prohibited Kuwait Bay area and referred the individuals found onboard the boat to the concerned authorities after issuing a citation against them for violating Article 108 of the law that bans fishing in Kuwait Bay area.
