KUWAIT CITY, Feb 1: China’s Zaopin Hangzhou, in partnership with the Contractor General Trading & Contracting Co. has been awarded the contract to treat the contaminated soil for Area C of the South Kuwait Drilling, Transfer and Remediation Project, according to regional project tracker MEED Projects, reports Al-Qabas daily. This is not the first time that Zaopin Hangzhou has won a contract to treat soil in Kuwait. The Chinese company had previously partnered with Heavy Engineering Industries and Shipbuilding Company Hesco for a $185.2 million remediation contract to treat 2.6 million cubic meters of contaminated soil.

In August of last year, MEED reported that the Contractor General Trading & Contracting Co. had submitted the lowest bid for each of Areas A and B. However, both contracts were not awarded to that company. While Al-Sayer Group won the contract for Area A of the project, which submitted the second lowest bid for the contract, and Al-Ghanim International General Trading and Contracting Company won the contract for Area B. In September last year, MEED revealed that the team had completed a pilot project as part of the contract to carry out oil clean-up work at the Burgan field.
