KUWAIT CITY, Sept 10: According to security sources, the General Traffic Department has started monitoring violations related to seat belts and phone use while driving, using the images captured by traffic cameras when motorists commit speeding violations. They explained that, when violations are captured via speed cameras and the red-light cameras at intersections, motorists’ commitment to the use of seat belts and not using mobile phones is checked. If one of the two violations is verified, a citation is issued for that violation in addition to the citation for the violation of speeding or running a red light.

The General Traffic Department has started issuing all citations electronically via the “Raseed” application so that the fines would reach the violators within seconds of their issuance by the police and traffic officer through the “Sahel” application.

The yellow paper violations have become very limited at the present time. The sources stressed the need to wear a seatbelt and avoid using mobile phones while driving, in order to preserve the lives of fellow motorists. They affirmed that the traffic and police officers are now issuing citations easily after photographing the place and location of the vehicle through “Raseed”, adding that they have thus issued tens of thousands of citations since the launch of the application early last week.
