KUWAIT CITY, April 8: Markets witnessed a remarkable increase in the number of people buying Ramadan goods and supplies one week before the holy month starts; while the highest demand was observed in the dates markets where sales increased by 43 percent, reports Al-Qabas daily. Mubarakiya Market witnessed a large turnout of citizens and expatriates who adhered to precautionary and preventive measures aimed at curbing the spread of coronavirus. Many women purchased Ramadan household items, utensils and decorations for serving food among others.

In Shuwaikh, shoppers purchased food products and the consumer markets offer large discounts on Ramadan goods. The same scenario was observed in Dajeej where markets were crowded even during the early morning hours as people purchased utensils and Ramadan decorations. Asked about the prices days before Ramadan, the shoppers confirmed to the daily that there has been a noticeable increase in the prices of some Ramadan goods or items, especially decorations, whose price increased by about 100 percent. They cited as an example the lantern kit which cost KD12 last year and it is currently sold in some markets at KD24.
