KUWAIT CITY, June 2: According to sources from the Ministry of Public Works, the bridges and roads that are damaged as a result of traffic accidents are maintained and repaired through maintenance contracts. They do not fall within the responsibilities of the contractor during the ten year warranty period for roads, reports Aljarida daily. They stressed that the damage to the retaining walls of a bypass bridge on King Fahd Expressway as a result of an accident does not affect the structural efficiency of the bridge.

Road maintenance work in progress at an unidentified location

Regarding the problem that occured in one of the joints of Jahra Bridge, the Ministry of Public Works explained in a press statement that the fault has been repaired and the damaged joint has been replaced by another that was imported from the supplier and installed at the contractor’s expense. This is because the bridge is still in the contractual maintenance (warranty) period. The delay that occurred to the Jahra Road project was attributed to some reasons that were outside the responsibility of the contractor, such as the amendments made by the General Traffic Department to the diversion of the Second Ring Road, and partial suspension of work on the Ghazali Bridge and rescheduling it to start after opening the main Jahra Bridge to traffic.
