BAS and Serbian Embassy host ‘Olympia Cup’ 2018

The British Academy of Sport (BAS) in conjunction with the Serbian Embassy hosted the Third Women’s International Volleyball Tournament in Kuwait between the various Embassies at the British School of Kuwait (BSK) in Salwa.

This year, eight teams participated representing Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Palestine, Philippines, Romania, Ukraine and USA. The opening parade was a vibrant and colourful event and included national dress, mascots, fl ags and enthusiastic supporters. From the opening game, a high level of skill and expertise was in evidence as the ladies fought very competitively to get through to the final.

Kuwait met Ukraine in the semifinal, and USA played against Philippines. The fi nal was played between the host nation Kuwait and Philippines; the champions from last year. After a very strong fi nal match, Philippines won the tournament and kept the champions title for the second consecutive year in the “Olympia Cup” Tournament. BAS Founder, Madam Vera Al Mutawa MBE, BKS Chairman Sadiq Al Mutawa, HE The Serbian Ambassador to Kuwait Vladimir Kohut and The Director of British Academy of Sport Lucian Anisia presented the awards to all the teams and the “Olympia Cup” 2018 to the winners, Philippines.

The tournament was attended by many of the Ambassadors of the participating countries and a huge number of community supporters of the various countries were proudly wearing their patriotism for everyone to see and enjoy. The Tournament was sponsored by: Decathlon, Masafi , Crowne Plaza, ITL World, Royale Hayat, Al Rifai and the media partner Times Kuwait.

The next important event at BAS will be the Annual Sports Awards Evening which will take place in May, where the best students from ten sports activities will receive their medals and trophies for each sport. This summer, BAS will be holding two Summer Camps for boys and girls aged between three and thirteen years old, from Sunday June 17 to Thursday July 05, 2018: one, a multisport activity camp and the other a dedicated swimming camp.
