LOS ANGELES, Jan 20, (Agencies): On Thursday night, Philadelphia Police reported the abandonment of a 3-month-old girl at a Walmart on the 4300 block of Byberry Road. The infant was left behind by two men and one woman, who were confronted by store security under suspicion of shoplifting. When approached by security guards, the three suspects fled the scene hastily, leaving the child unattended.

At approximately 11 pm, Walmart security contacted Philadelphia police about the incident. Paramedics from the Philadelphia Fire Department transported the infant to Jefferson-Torresdale Hospital, where medical professionals evaluated her and reported her condition as “good,” according to Philadelphia Police.

The Philadelphia Department of Human Services took custody of the child, while authorities believe they have identified and contacted the baby’s parents. Speculations indicate that the parents were not involved in the shoplifting incident. An anonymous law enforcement source informed The Philadelphia Inquirer that some of the individuals who abandoned the infant may not have been connected to the theft.

The Philadelphia Police Department’s Special Victims Unit (SVU) is actively investigating the situation, and as of now, no charges have been filed in connection to the abandonment.
