KUWAIT CITY, May 19: The Court of Appeals cancelled the decision of a lower court, which sentenced a former international athlete to three years in prison for visa trading, human trafficking, and forcing expatriates to work against their will. The higher court confirmed the innocence of the defendant. Earlier, the Public Prosecution charged the defendant and others with trafficking in persons, indicating they carried out their illegal recruitment operations in a company managed by one of the accused. The company manager confiscated the passports of the victims whom he deceived by promising to give them jobs with a salary of KD 150 and other benefits. He took money from the victims in exchange for concluding employment contracts, taking advantage of their need for work and money. – By Jaber Al-Hamoud Al-Seyassah Staff and Agencies
