Samer Al-Marta struck in the final minutes to give a team of Kuwaiti veteran internationals a 1-0 victory over Oman in a three-nation football tournament at Doha Stadium on Sunday. The 45-year-old defender struck hard from outside the area for his side to bounce back from a defeat by Qatar to climb equal with the host nation on three points. The Kuwaiti side included legends such as midfielders Bader Hajji and Jamal Mubarak, goalkeeper Khaled Al-Fadhli and defender Nehayar Al-Shemmeri. But it was Al-Marta, a player with only three international caps, who produced a fine finish on the night. Oman and Qatar will go head-to-head in the event’s last match, with the hosts having one eye on the title. In the event of a triumph for Oman, a draw will be head to determine the champions. (KUNA)
