KUWAIT CITY, Nov 8: Acting Director of Kuwait University, Dr. Mishari Al-Harbi, confirmed that the university is keen to upgrade the structure of its campus to be environmentally friendly, and has developed a distinctive strategy to provide an exemplary educational, healthy, and developmental environment for students.

This came in a statement yesterday on the sidelines of the visit of the Healthy Cities Office of the Ministry of Health to Sabah Al Salem University City to conduct a self-evaluation in preparation for its accreditation as a healthy university city, reports Al-Rai daily.

Dr Al-Harbi praised those in charge of the Healthy Cities Office and the committee formed at the university for their efforts to enhance the concept of a healthy university city and follow up on the application of the required standards at the university.

He pointed out that the availability of sustainability and healthy environment requirements in Sabah Al-Salem University City was reviewed, as well as the plans and policies implemented by the university to promote the concept of comprehensive health, such as water and sanitation management, waste management, dealing with pollution, spreading the culture of healthy nutrition and physical activity, and commitment to implementing preventive laws.

The preventive laws include no smoking, promoting mental health and preventing infectious diseases, implementing a medical examination program, early detection programs for diseases, physical safety, injury prevention, emergency preparedness, and response, in addition to community participation and sustainability, cooperation, and partnership between sectors, and establishing an information center and skills development, hoping efforts be crowned with success.

A detailed explanation was presented of what will be presented to the World Health Organization in order to evaluate and agree on the final features of the visit scheduled for December 10-11 of this year.
