KUWAIT CITY, Sept 15: The Chairperson of the Kuwait Association for Information Security Dr. Safaa Zaman expressed her happiness regarding the appeal ruling issued in her favor, which acquitted her of the State Security charges of publishing false news, on the grounds of her talk about the existence of databases of appointments and promotions for state employees with an Egyptian company overseas, reports Al-Qabas daily.

After the verdict, Zaman said, “I am very happy for more than one reason… firstly because the truth has come out, my innocence has emerged with it, and I was redressed, because I said for the sake of Kuwait and for fear of it. My statement in the case was purely technical and out of my specialization, and away from politics. Secondly because the ruling proves Kuwait was and still is a state of freedom and justice. And thirdly, the subject of the statement had a good impact on the government’s move through the issuance of some legislation and regulations that would contribute to limiting tampering with state data.

Important
The most important thing in all of this is that the ruling represents a victory for Kuwait and its people. It suffices in vain with people’s dignity and freedoms. The word of truth must be spoken even if it arouses the fear and anger of the corrupt”. It is worth highlighting that the Public Prosecution had leveled three charges against Zaman, with penalties of up to ten years in prison, based on a State Security case filed against her for talking about an Egyptian company abroad that have a database of the Civil Service Commission on the appointments and promotions for state employees of Kuwait. However, the Criminal Court ruled her acquittal of these charges, and the Court of Appeals upheld the verdict.
