A series of deceptions, trickery and false claims

Despite all the uproar and grumbling or even the veiled rejection of a minority over what happened in recent months regarding the revocation of the citizenship of tens of thousands of people and their return to their previous status before they obtained State citizenship, this uproar was put to rest, albeit temporarily, once the discovery of fraud and corruption involving large numbers was announced. No sane person would accept the status quo under any circumstances.

How could one accept the existence of a family with 20, 30 or 40 children, some of whom are older than or near the age of their mothers? What is this audacity in forging and manipulating people? How did this citizen, and before him, that ‘senior official’, allow themselves to put their recommendations, seals, signatures and final approval on such people obtaining State citizenship — the foundation and symbol of its pride?! Despite all the good qualities we are fond of attributing to our society and our nostalgia over the beautiful past, we are, in reality, not much different from other societies, even the advanced ones.

A single observation of the receptions and banquets held for the ‘figures’ of society reveals that the majority of those invited, if not all, do not truly care to investigate the background of the inviter, even if they are among those who ‘miss their face in the seat and their face on the bed’. They ignore all the doubts surrounding the academic degrees they claim to hold, the source of the millions they derive from their wealth, and the truth behind the ‘scholarly’ titles they insist on bestowing upon themselves.

A single close examination is enough to reveal to all these people that their lives have been nothing but a series of deceptions, trickery and false claims. Many have obtained citizenship by purchase, fraud, impersonation or through tribal or sectarian connections. This facilitated the interference of representatives of one party or another with senior officials, enabling the undeserving to obtain citizenship and build a business empire, public relations, higher education and other institutions, all without possessing the minimum requirements to manage or own such activities, including cultural, educational and personal qualifications, integrity, and a good reputation!

The State recently revoked the citizenship of an individual and all of his children. Among them are those who owned several businesses, including an educational institution, whose management we previously criticized, as well as the programs, events and lavish academic awards and titles that accompanied its activities through fabricated and cheap ‘international’ hosting. The fall was inevitable, but, unfortunately, it was long overdue.

It did not come as a result of the efforts of the relevant authorities in higher education and the Secretariat General of Private Universities. It rather came as an inevitable consequence of the revocation of the citizenship.

If there had been a proper oversight system in place for educational institutions, the future of many who enrolled would have been saved, given their trust in the oversight agencies. However, the security decision ‘ruined the situation’ and indirectly led to the government halting scholarships, severing its lifeline.

Note that the decision to ‘suspend scholarships’ was issued by the Secretariat General of Private Universities which, along with the Ministry of Higher Education, bears the full burden of these institutions. So who will compensate the students for the precious years of their lives that have been lost?!
