The preliminary round of the 1st Asian Boxing Championship for juniors kicked off Friday, Aug 2 at the hall of Kuwait Sporting Club under the patronage of Chairman of Olympic Committee of Kuwait Sheikh Fahd Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmad.
The results of this round will determine the teams that will qualify for the second round.
A total of 150 participants are taking part in the championship.
The toss happened on Thursday at Crowne Plaza Hotel in the presence of Deputy Chairman of International Boxing Federation and Chairman of Asian Boxing Federation Anas Al-Otaiba and Head of Kuwait Boxing Association Mohammad Mansi as well as heads of participating delegations and teams’ coaches.
Qatar, Bhutan and Indonesia are not participating in the championship, and hence the number of participating countries reduced to 21.
Meanwhile, Al-Otaiba praised the distinguished way the championship is being organized, especially after the ban on Kuwait sports has been lifted, He also praised the professional level of different committees, which reflect the capability of Kuwait to host such international competitions.
He affirmed that the performance level of the teams is really high, stressing the keenness of the Asian Boxing Federation to provide all available potentials to support this event.
Al-Otaiba called on the participants to avoid any kind of illegal violence and commit to the directives of their coaches.
He revealed that two competitions for juniors will be held in the United Arab Emirates in October and in Mongolia in November.
In addition, Head of Syrian Boxing Association Mohammad Shabib revealed his happiness in participating in the championship.
He thanked Kuwait Boxing Association for the wonderful way the championship was organized in a record time.
