KUWAIT CITY, Feb 19: Legitimate Authentication Department Director in the Ministry of Justice Dr Fahad Al-Dhae’n has announced that 13,800 marriages were registered last year compared to 14,400 in 2018, reports Al-Anba daily.
In his interview with the daily, Al-Dhae’n disclosed the number of divorce cases for the period starting from 2010 to 2018 reached 7,800 each year. He added the number of marriages among Kuwaitis reached 9,200 last year – higher by 44 compared to the figures in 2018, while the number of divorce cases in the same year of marriage increased by five percent.
He said the number of couples found to be incompatible based on their pre-marriage medical checkup results reached 56 in 2019 as per the reports of the Health Ministry. He went on to say the number of Kuwaiti families totaled 200,000; indicating that five to six percent of marriages annually end in divorce and these are normal rates
