Workers held for violations

KUWAIT CITY, July 23: The phenomenon of non-specialized labor force working on government and private construction projects continues.

This was discovered after inspectors from the Occupational Health and Safety Center affiliated to Public Authority for Manpower issued citations against dozens of violations committed by several contracting companies in this regard, reports Al- Qabas daily.

According to informed sources, the inspection campaign was conducted recently by the Occupational Health and Safety inspectors during which six workers who were working on a government construction project were arrested as some of them held residence permit for domestic sector and others agricultural sector.

The detained workers were referred to the concerned authorities where necessary measures will be taken. Among other prominent violations cited by the Occupational Health and Safety inspectors was the failure of delivery companies to transfer their employees under their files.

Many of the workers in the delivery sector were found to not possess health cards issued by the Ministry of Health, and others working in that sector held residency permits of domestic workers or farm workers.
