KUWAIT CITY, Aug 24: The Civil Court obligated a well-known real estate company, which was involved in real estate fraud, to pay a Kuwaiti woman a sum of KD 40,000, after the company deceived her with a fictitious project of “buying real estate in the United States of America”. The court also obligated the company to pay a sum of KD 2,000 as legal fees. Representing the Kuwaiti woman was Lawyer Ali Jorah, who explained that the Public Prosecution assigned the legal representative of the company that defrauded his client with the intent to usurp her money by presenting her with a fictitious real estate project based in the US and promising that she would earn returns from it. The Court of Cassation determined the damages sustained by his client, which necessitates compensation.

This is based on the fact that the defendant managed to obtain money fraudulently from his client. In consideration of the document presented by the plaintiff, the court ordered the company to compensate the Kuwaiti woman and also pay the legal fees incurred throughout the legal process of the lawsuit. Meanwhile, the Capital Governor, Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled, has requested the Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, Dr. Misha’an Al-Otaibi to take necessary measures and not to reconnect power supply to violating residential properties until all building violations are removed to protect citizens and prevent waster of public money, reports Al-Jarida daily. The request is accompanied by the measures taken by the governorate, in cooperation with the ministry and all other concerned authorities, against violating real estate owners during his field inspection tours.
