Warehouse used to cut, sell iron, copper rods found

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 27: A joint inspection campaign by the Ministry of Electricity, the Kuwait Municipality and the Ministry Interior in Farwaniya Governorate resulted in discovery of a warehouse where stolen iron and copper rods were being cut.

The components were confiscated and handled according to the law, reports Al-Anba daily. Deputy Head of the Inspection Department in the Ministry of Electricity and Water, and a member of the inspection team Ahmad Al- Shammari said, “Within the framework of coordination and joint cooperation among the government agencies, the judicial control team, the Kuwait Municipality and the Ministry of Interior launched a joint campaign in Farwaniya Governorate. During the campaign, a large number of violations were detected, most notably, the existence of a warehouse that was utilized for carrying out an unlicensed activity”.

Al-Shammari explained that the joint campaign is aimed at monitoring the infringements and violations in the area where a number of cases of illegal electricity connections has been detected. During the campaign, the municipality teams, with the support of the Ministry of Interior, were able to discover an unlicensed store as well as a warehouse in which iron and copper were cut without a license.

Copper wires hidden in bags were discovered and verified if they were stolen from the Ministry of Electricity and Water and sold illegally. Some gangs steal electrical cables from external and remote sites, cut them, and sell them to a number of violating stores in some governorates. Kuwait Municipality referred the seized copper wires to the Ministry of Electricity and Water where an investigation has been launched.
