Violations in donations collection sent for probe

KUWAIT CITY, July 21: The Ministry of Social Affairs will directly refer to the Public Prosecution the violations related to collection of donations by individuals or entities in order to take the necessary legal measures against them. The Ministry of Social Affairs’ Department of Charitable Societies and Associations in the Social Development Sector had addressed several letters to the Public Prosecutor, requesting the referral of a group of individuals caught collecting donations illegally and without license, so that necessary measures can be taken against them to ensure tight control over the collection of funds. The matter only applies to the notified legal entities that operate under the umbrella of the state.

According to one of the correspondences, the ministry affirmed to the General Public Prosecutor that its field teams concerned with removing charitable work violations had observed billboards installed by some people along the streets and public roads. These billboards called for collection of donations without obtaining prior approval from the ministry. This is a serious violation of article 1 of law No. 59/1959, which was issued for the regulation of licensing the raising of funds for public purposes
