‘Kuwait’s position stems from its national & Palestinian interests’

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 20: In less than 24 hours, the Kuwaiti response came to the statements of Jared Kushner, advisor to US President Donald Trump and his son-in-law, in which he described Kuwait’s stance in support of Palestine as radical and ‘unconstructive’, reports Al-Qabas daily. Government sources told Al-Qabas that Kuwait is committed to its position against normalization with Israel, and it has not changed, explaining that this position stems from its consistent national interests for years, and in a way that achieves the interests of the Palestinian people.

“Kuwait’s position from the beginning was, and remains, supportive of the Palestinian cause at all levels,” the sources added. In the context, 41 deputies issued a statement rejecting normalization and affirming the leadership’s firm stance towards opposing the Zionist entity and supporting the just cause of Palestine. The deputies said in the statement: “The crimes of the occupying Zionist entity cannot be removed from the souls of our children, nor does normalization reduce their gravity, as this entity still commits the most heinous crimes against people, trees, and even stones.”

The statement added, “The Kuwaiti people of all sects will not accept any retreat from their government’s commitment to the first cause of Arabs and Muslims, and will continue to strengthen the political leadership in its courageous and steadfast stance towards the issue over the years.” Meanwhile, reports Al-Anba daily said the US embassy in Kuwait confirmed the depth of US-Kuwaiti relations, stating that Kuwait is an old ally of the United States, and the US administration appreciates the continuous efforts it is making to maintain regional security and stability.

In exclusive statements to Al-Anba, the embassy pointed out that the strategic relationship with Kuwait covers several areas, including security, defense, trade exchange, cultural exchange and ties between the two peoples. In response to a question about the extent to which Kuwaiti-American relations have been affected by Kuwait’s position on normalization with Israel, the embassy said: We maintain regular contact with Kuwait, not only on bilateral issues, but also on regional affairs, and certainly we will continue our discussion on these issues with the Kuwaiti side. “We respect the sovereignty of Kuwait and its desire to make decisions based on the requirements of its own interests. We believe that the latest agreement is a historic breakthrough between the United Arab Emirates and Israel, and an important step — taken for the first time in 25 years — to achieve peace in the Middle East. The agreement forms the basis for further progress towards regional peace. The agreement also supports the vision of the United States of peace as a basis for a comprehensive, just and lasting peace between Israelis and the Palestinians,” the embassy added.

In response to a question about her vision of Jared Kushner’s statements about Kuwait and his description of Kuwait’s support for the Palestinians as radical and non-constructive stance, the embassy said Jared Kushner is a high-ranking representative of the President of the United States, and the view he expresses refl ects the opinion of the American administration.
