Teenage Kuwaiti ‘arrested’ for driving vehicle into crowd, killing 8 people

KUWAIT CITY, May 28: Police have arrested a 17-year-old Kuwaiti, identified only as M.K., who allegedly drove his vehicle into a ‘crowd’ of people that was helping the injured following a three vehicle collision on a road in Kabad, reports Al-Rai daily.

The daily added, the suspect reportedly drove into the crowd killing on the spot eight people – three Kuwaitis, three Saudis, a bedoun and an unidentified person and injuring yet another person. He has been detained and referred to the Juvenile Prosecution.

The dead are identified as Nayef Hussein Al Daihani (Kuwait), Abdulrahman Muhammad Shabab Al-Dehani (Kuwaiti), Abdulaziz Obaid Al-Dehani (Kuwaiti), Abdullah Salaf Mujahid Al- Mutairi (Saudi), Falah Meshaal Al-Dehani (Saudi), Meshal Fahad Al-Dehani (Saudi), Radi Mohammad Al-Qumaid (bedoun) and unidentified person.

The injured in identified as Adel Ahmed Hammoud (Kuwaiti). The remains of the victims have been referred to Forensics and the injured to the Farwaniya Hospital.

The Public Relations of and Security Media Information Department of the Ministry of Interior said the suspect driving a four-wheel drive was speeding and lost control of his vehicle causing the vehicle deviate to the left side of the road and into the crowd of people. The Ministry of Interior has extended its deepest condolences to the families of the deceased, calling on the Almighty to grant them mercy.

MP Muhammad Al-Huwailah while mourning the victims of a Kabad accident and condoling the families of the deceased has urged the concerned authorities – the Ministry of Interior, the Public Roads Authority and the Ministry of Public Works to conduct surveys of all the streets of Kuwait and study them and develop structural and organizational solutions for them.
