Syrian police impersonator held – ‘I am world champion’

A Syrian expatriate was arrested for impersonating an officer of rank ‘First Lieutenant’ from General Department for Residency Affairs (GDRA). According to a press statement issued by Ministry of Interior, when the General Department for Residency Affairs received information about an individual claiming to be an officer of rank ‘First Lieutenant’ from the department, distributing calling cards with this information, inspecting shops and demanding employees of Al-Ayoub Complex in Hawally area to present their civil IDs, the department checked their systems for details of this officer but did not find any.

A team was formed to track the individual and he was eventually arrested in Adan area. Officers checked his details to discover he is a Syrian national and they found forged ID cards including that of Head of Public Affairs at Farwaniya Department for Residency Affairs, and special access cards to the National Assembly building, which were all forged, in his possession. He was referred with the confiscated items to the concerned authorities for further investigations and necessary legal action against him.
