Smartphones and tablet PCs increasingly becoming children’s everyday vocabulary

KUWAIT CITY, June 24: It is no secret that smartphones and tablet PCs are increasingly becoming the everyday vocabulary of our children and adolescents nowadays, as children are keen to use such devices to enjoy games or browsing as well as take advantage of multiple communication functions, reports Al- Anba daily But the use of this modern technology remains a double-edged sword between the permitted and the forbidden activities which infl uence the lives of children and their study and the formation of their personality.

From this logic, it became necessary for parents to follow the young and the extent of their integration with these devices and the amount of time they spend on these devices and find a mechanism to protect them from their negative effects, to prevent them from becoming addicted to these gadgets.

The daily ran a survey to see whether there are controls by parents when their children use smart phones and tablets to ensure the benefit and avoid the risks and some views point to the negative use of smart phones and the role of parents in determining the specific times for children to use and invest their time to benefit them and develop their talents.

One respondent, Khalid Mamdouh said his children, unfortunately, use the smart devices more than ten hours, but in his opinion the use of these devices can be a curse or very useful if used in the right way.

Fawaz al-Azmi said his children are using the devices for long periods of up to ten hours and that the attempts to ration them are not easy and pulling the devices out of their hands is not easy also.

He added, the disadvantages of using these devices are more positive but care must be taken to check on the quality of the programs used by their children and follow them constantly and not rely on the servants in raising their children, and that the frequent use of devices cause a kind of idleness in children and lack of movement and activity
