Sinai recovering from IS terrorism

THE campaign to root out terrorism in Sinai Peninsula is synchronized with Egyptian timings and its domestic considerations; hence, when the time approached, Egypt’s forces armed with domestic and international support launched a campaign against ‘DAESH’ and other terrorist groups.

Egypt’s forces would not have started a campaign of this magnitude if they did not ensure security and stability internally, while removing ramifications of the events sparked by demonstrations on Jan 25, 2011.

By doing so, Egypt embarks on rebuilding State establishments and stabilizing economic conditions which could have formed a massive loophole for terrorists to infiltrate in order to destabilize national security in general.

Therefore, delaying this campaign up to this day was due to imposition of domestic necessities which could not be overlooked.

Undoubtedly, what transpires today in Sinai is a test through which Egypt puts all countries in front of the reality mirror in terms of fighting terrorism; not hiding behind human rights’ masks or similar masks that would allow Egypt’s bleeding to continue in order to serve its interests.

At one point, the threat that Egypt has been facing occurred at a strategic time, especially when the previous US administration exposed its vision towards solving the Middle East crisis at the expense of Egypt.

The previous US administration claimed to send Palestinians from Gaza Strip to Sinai and distance Israel from what Hillary Clinton described in one of her statements as, “Palestinian headache that poses threats to Israel’s security.”

On the other side of this blessed Egyptian campaign, there is a serious movement whether by Russia, Turkey or the US in returning Iran to its natural size in Syria as a preliminary step towards expelling it from what it considers as its ultimate trophy in its Shia’s crescent scheme.

This scheme is tailored on the Persian expansionism illusion – to ‘Persianize’ the region by claiming that the regimes ruling the countries in that crescent are Shias.

In Syria, Russian and Turkish considerations differed after Moscow and Ankara felt that the Persian infiltration in this pivotal Arabic country would pose a strategic threat to their interests.

Thus, these two countries started serious work to benefit from the Iranian existence in fighting terrorists with terrorists on one hand, and on the other hand, trimming the Persian claws especially after Iran’s populace uprising against the regime and the audacity of Persian media to criticize the Iranian-Syrian relations by regarding it as toxic on Iran’s national wealth.

The events in Syria, Iraq and Yemen are delicate surgeries to root out the Persian expansionism tumor without any side effects on the domestic frontier of these countries.  These are parallel to surgeries carried out by skillful hands in Sinai to uproot the terrorism hub which forms another side of the image of terrorism led by Iran with the help of several countries.

Therefore, if the remedy process in Syria, Iraq and Lebanon needs some time, which could end up sustaining some side injuries, the Egyptian operation will not take long due to the fact that its armed forces are well-informed about the nature of the land and its population. They are fully aware in terms of dealing with every new development in this regard.
