KUWAIT CITY, July 24: Upon his return to the country after spending holiday abroad, State Minister for Municipality Affairs Isa Al-Kandari intends to terminate the services of several expatriate and Kuwaiti employees who allegedly abused their positions for personal benefits, a move which is considered a war against the corrupt, reports Al-Qabas daily.

A source revealed the minister will dismiss all officials who failed to develop their departments or sectors, pointing out the reshuffling decision that the minister took earlier will be applied in the middle of August and this will cover some heads of sectors.

The source said the minister had previously gathered information about some staff who took advantage of their positions to serve personal interests, especially in the engineering sector including the main administration and Kuwait Municipality branches in the governorates.

Sources affirmed the minister will take legal action against employees who approved transactions although the applicants failed to meet the conditions.

The source added the minister is bent on eliminating nepotism among expatriate employees, i.e., husband, wife or their children working in the same sector, because this practice contributes to the spread of corruption.

The source went on to say that a statistical report on work cases will be prepared soon as a preliminary step to the termination of workers and distribution of others who have experience and hold academic degrees to various sectors
