KUWAIT CITY, April 4: The General Directorate of Traffic announced the start of activating the traffic plan for the holy month of Ramadan, which is divided into two parts, reports Al-Jarida daily. The first part focuses on traffic movement when employees rush to work in the morning and also when they leave their workplaces while the other part focuses on the period after people break their fast. Major Abdullah Buhassan of the Public Relations and Traffic Awareness Department said the plan for Ramadan consists of deploying of 200 traffic patrols, and 100 security patrols on ring roads, highways and main roads, and the entrances and exits of regions.

The daily quoting security sources said these patrols operate on two fronts — the first focuses on the entry and exit of employees, during which coordination takes place between the traffic patrols and the traffic operations room to monitor movement through traffic monitoring cameras. He pointed out that the second security deployment, which was included in the plan, would be after the Iftar period, with the aim of ensuring the flow of traffic, especially in the first week of the holy month, due to the exchange of visits between Kuwaiti citizens and families, while the plan continues during the evening period until the end of the holy month, as traffic congestion is witnessed in commercial markets and complexes as citizens and residents prepare for Eid Al-Fitr. Buhassan stated that the Traffic Department has modified some timings to go in line with its plan, including the times when trucks and similar heavy vehicles are forbidden in the morning from 8:30 until 10:30 in the morning, and in the evening from 12:30 until 3:00 in the afternoon.

The administration also adjusted the working hours of employees in traffic departments and driving test departments from 10:00 in the morning until 3:00 in the afternoon. He added that the first day of the blessed month witnessed the occurrence of 4 traffic accidents, including one case of vehicle overturning which resulted in the injury to three people. The cause of the accidents was speeding.
