KUWAIT CITY, March 3: Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor has requested the Central Bank of Kuwait to introduce measures to prevent local banks from accepting any cash deposits from charity societies and related associations, except with the written consent of the ministry clearly specifying the amount of money to be deposited and the name of the person depositing the money, reports Al-Jarida daily.

The ministry said supervision, audit and control activities of these associations and charities must be according to the provisions of Law No. 24 of 1962.

This came after it was widely noticed that cash was deposited into bank accounts opened by some societies and charities without the knowledge of the ministry, despite a decision taken by the Cabinet banning cash donations which task was assigned only to the Zakat House and the General Secretariat of the Awqaf Ministry. Meanwhile, the Central Bank has informed the banks of the need to cooperate with the Ministry of Social Affairs.
