Municipality out to relieve MoH pressure; Many malls visited

KUWAIT CITY, June 28: The Director-General of Kuwait Municipality, Engineer Ahmad Al-Manfouhi, said that the Municipality’s goal as a governmental body is to spread knowledge, explain laws by its inspectors, and support the Ministry of Health to relieve pressure on the health system. This came in a statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on Monday, on the sidelines of an inspection tour of one of the complexes to implement the Cabinet’s decision to prevent non-vaccinated people from entering commercial complexes, salons, restaurants, cafes and health clubs, which came into effect on Sunday.

Al-Manfouhi stressed that the main goal of the committee is not only to follow up on the implementation of health requirements in order to prevent infection, but also economic, as the increase in the number cases leads to more economic closures. He stated that the Ministry of Health authorized the Follow- up Regulations Committee to take advantage of Law No. 8 of 1969 on health precautions to prevent communicable diseases, which stated, “Any violation of the provisions of this law or the decisions implementing it shall be punished by imprisonment for a period not exceeding three months and a fine not exceeding five thousand dinars or one of these two penalties.”

Meanwhile, on the first day of implementing the decision to prevent non-vaccinated people from entering cafes and restaurants, many of them adhered to the government decision but seemed almost empty of customers, reports Al-Rai daily. One of the workers of a cafe in Marina Mall revealed that he had never witnessed such calmness in the last three years, indicating that the reason could be the high temperature. However, he was quick to add that there have been hotter days in the country, but things never reached this point of calmness.

Meanwhile, the main partner in the Mughal Mahal Restaurants Company Ashok Kalra affirmed that all branches of the Mughal Mahal restaurant in all parts of Kuwait are committed to the decisions of the Kuwaiti government aimed to preserve the health of citizens and residents in Kuwait. He indicated that a mechanism has been established to monitor all their customers before they enter the commercial complexes and check if they are vaccinated. Kalra said, “It is a government decision due to which it must be respected and implemented. However, if we look at the economic aspect, the restaurant sector will suffer a loss because families are the ones who usually frequent the restaurant but some of their members have not yet been vaccinated. This will negatively affect the customer base in most of the major complexes”., (KUNA)
