Call to link labor market needs with higher education outputs

KUWAIT CITY, July 12: Dean of the College of Basic Education at the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training (PAAET) Dr Freih Al-Enazi stressed the importance of strengthening bonds of joint Gulf cooperation in the research field to develop scientific performance, invest in forums and transform them into real cooperation that reflects positively on the academic institutions.

Al-Enazi expressed this in a speech at the opening of a forum organized by the Department of Social Studies on Friday titled “Corona pandemic and its historical, environmental and social impacts on the Gulf Cooperation Council countries” under the auspices of the Director General of Public Authority for Applied Education and Training Dr Ali Al-Mudhaf.

He said the forum was held during these exceptional circumstances in the country and other parts of the world to shed light on the scientific approach required of specialists and those interested in dealing with the pandemic and its implications.

He also said it touched on several important axes related to the social, historical and geographical environmental dimension with the hope of yielding its desired fruits through a Gulf scientific partnership that ends with recommendations of interest for those in charge of academic institutions to prepare a common scientific database in the current crisis.

For his part, Head of the Department of Social Studies Dr Nayef Al-Dosari stressed that the forum shed light on the effects of Corona pandemic, adding the department is confident in the role of scientific research in uncovering the reality of challenges and measuring the effects of re-handling and dealing with a new world.

He noted the forum with its three scientific sessions includes exhaustive scientific paperwork that will come out with recommendations to contribute to eliminating the state of panic and fog to enable the Gulf community overcome the state of confusion to continue the process of development and progress.

This will be achieved by placing focus on the geographical, environmental and social dimensions having the history of epidemics in the Arab Gulf states. He pointed out that the summary of papers presented includes a number of recommendations with multiple dimensions, such as adopting realism and objectivity, and avoiding emotionalism when dealing with demographic imbalances. He declared the need to activate population policies that were mentioned in the five-year development plan.

He emphasized linking the needs of labor market with higher education outputs to reduce dependence on expatriate workers and disguised unemployment.

He affirmed the need to educate citizens that the imbalance in demographics and workforce is a societal problem and not the creation of governments alone.

With regard to the geographical environment dimension, the recommendations drew attention to the importance of achieving sustainable development committed by all states of the Gulf Cooperation Council, especially those related to water, whether environmental or economic, amid law enforcement that limits climate change.

On the historical dimension, the forum came out with several recommendations, including the evaluation of measures taken by government during the crisis and developing successful ones among them, examining the causes of failure and finding solutions to them.

It also includes comparing this evaluation with measures taken in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and the world to benefit from their experiences, and to prepare a database to archive everything related to epidemics such as the stages of their formation, spread and methods of treatment. He urged the various educational institutions on the importance of teaching the students everything related to epidemics historically and socially to create a culture of facing such challenges among young people.(Al Anba)
