Mother acquitted, father jailed for killing girl, freezing corpse

KUWAIT CITY, June 12: The Court of Appeals Monday overturned the verdict issued by the Court of First Instance which sentenced a Kuwaiti couple to death by hanging after they were convicted of murdering their daughter and placing her corpse in a freezer.

The court instead acquitted the wife and sentenced the husband to ten-year imprisonment. As per details of the socalled “Salmiya Crime”, the couple had tortured their three-year old daughter until she died in their house in Salmiya area.

The investigation teams from Ministry of Interior had combed through the circumstances of the toddler’s death. They interrogated the 26-year old father of the victim and he confessed to killing his daughter with knowledge and the participation of his wife. He said they had placed the corpse of their child in the freezer after she died, revealing that they were under the influence of drugs and brain stimulants at that time.

Investigations also revealed that the father wrapped the corpse before buying a freezer from one of the commercial shops on the same day his daughter died. Traces of burns were seen on the shoulders and legs of the victim during a post-mortem examination.
