KUWAIT CITY, May 27: Minister of Health Dr Bassel Al-Sabah announced that the ministry is seeking to expand the number of health centers overseas to run a health check on the expatriate workers in their respective countries before they are hired to work in Kuwait, especially in Africa and Asia, in light of the registration of 1,271 cases during re-examination in Kuwait in 2017 and 2018, reports Al-Qabas daily.

In his response to parliamentary questions addressed to him by MP Adel Al-Damkhi on the mechanism used by the Health Ministry to screen expatriate workers before coming to work in Kuwait and other related inquiries, the minister said Kuwait’s embassies and consulates abroad have been urged to use the electronic link system in coordination with the General Secretariat of the Council of Gulf States, as well as re-examination in the country before granting them residence permit.

The minister said that among the plans that will be adopted by the ministry is the addition of other checks for those coming to work, and asked the health status of those coming from the visit of countries that have an electronic link to the program. He pointed to the imposition of financial fines on centers found to have committed irregularities in addition to striking off the name of the center from the ‘approved list’.
